The Backward Accelerators

Band History

The Backward Accelerators is in many ways a unique band. With four members in three countries whom have never physically played together, we are a living proof of how music can unite people across nation borders, cultures and religions.

It all started at our favorite web site Kompoz.com - the world's leading online collaboration site for musicians - in early 2008. Kompoz was created by our very good friend Mr Raf Fiol, and we are indebted to him for bringing us together and making our band possible.

Björn, having just come out of a 17-year musical hiatus found Kompoz and immediately became addicted to the incredible possibilities of world-wide collaboration it offered. In the process of collaboration, he crossed paths with ...

Nate several times and was very impressed with Nate's unique command of words and slightly warped sense of humor. Björn and Nate soon came to the conclusion that they worked very well as a songwriting team and started discussing taking it one step further - to make a record.

It is all well and good to have a guitar player and a wordsmith/vocalist, but this is not nearly enough to create music. Enter Pascal, whom Björn and Nate knew and respected both for his incredible arranging and playing skills and for his easygoing and humble approach. Pascal was invited to join the project and the musical level took a quantum leap up.

The strategy for the band was set from day one: this had to be fun and had to have a soul. The musical direction was clearly going to be somewhere in the blues/rock territory. In order to make such songs work and not end up sounding flat and boring, groove is required. When groove was discussed, Eric was the given candidate for the drum chair. A master of shuffle and rhythm, he completed the band perfectly.

Once the line-up was complete, the songs for the first record were quickly written, arranged and recorded.

None of us had ever produced a record ourselves before, so the process of finding out and executing all the necessary steps to actually produce the physical record became very long and tedious. However, a true Accelerator never gives up, and we are all incredibly stubborn.

It is with pleasure we announce the release of our debut album Full Speed Backwards, and we sincerely hope you will have as much fun listening to it as we had making it.
